Six and a Half Weeks!

Well, the girl seems to be growing up so fast already. I know, I know. That sounds ridiculous. But the other morning her face looked so mature and I realized that she would never look like a newborn again. Then her little newborn cry (aka "the Goat") went away and real voicey noises are coming out of her mouth. Then she laughed and smiled while she was awake. Then she smiled because we smiled at her. It's all happening so fast. She's pushing 9 pounds so she's still a little peanut but her arms and legs are growing so fast. She's already outgrown her favorite jammies. Alright, they were MY favorite, and yes, I made her wear them one more time even though she could barely straighten her legs in them, because I thought they deserved a proper "going out." So you mean, they don't stay this little? Okay, I'm coming to terms with it. So here are a few pictures I downloaded from my phone over the last few weeks.

How YOU Doin'?!?!

Eliza certainly seems to have embraced the Brooklyn spirit with this face.

5 Weeks Old Already

Wow, 5 weeks have flown by pretty quickly.   There's no question she's the center of our universe.  Scottie and I are just amazed every day at what a cool little thing we made.  We've gotten our first real smiles this week and let me tell you, when you've gotten a max of two hours sleep at a time, and your little baby has been screaming for an hour and you just can't tell why, that one huge toothless grin when you kiss her nose makes it all go away.   Nights have been pretty unpredictable and sleep is ... what?  sleep?  what's that?  Oh wait, except last night when my little rock star slept a whole 5 hours IN A ROW!!!!  So needed.  She's about 8 lbs now and it seems like she's always interested in adding to that.  Last night we actually went out to dinner with friends and brought her along.  It was a huge moment!   She had been super fussy all day and we weren't even sure we were going to make it through our hello's without a melt down, but she was a champ.  So we're all adjusting and learning from each other every day.  We're told this 5 week mark is when she'll be at her crankiest and so far she's pretty text book, but like I said, the smiles make it all worth it.  And did I mention those big gorgeous blue eyes?
They're the best!!

Getting bigger

Today at Eliza's pediatrician appointment,
our little gal weighed in at 7 lbs. 10 oz.
That's a 13 oz gain from last week!  She was a little slow gaining weight for the first couple of weeks so this was a huge accomplishment for us!  Atta Girl E.K.!

First Post

Okay, so I've never done this blog thing but I thought it would be a nice thing since so many of Eliza Kate's admirers are so far away.  I'll be posting new pictures and hopefully videos on a regular basis.
So far this kid has been amazing.  Sure she cries when she needs something and she needs something quite often, and we're totally sleep deprived but it's amazing how fast you learn how to keep a little human alive.  For a little three week old, she's got a lot of personality.  She's smiling and laughing but not for any particular reason so far.  She laughs so loud in her sleep sometimes she wakes us up.  She's become somewhat of an expert gas machine.   She looks just like her daddy down to her toes.  She's come to enjoy her bath times, although we're pretty sure she's peeing in there and wondering what to do about that.  At this point whatever makes her happy makes us happy so if Eliza wants to pee in her tub then Eliza will pee in her tub.  She's super strong and has been picking her head up from day one.  She's got the quad muscles of a Russian weight lifter.  I'm not kidding.  As of right now, her interests include car rides, music, bumpy sidewalks in her stroller and pooping on her dad.  Well, pooping anywhere really, but it's funnier when she does it on dad!
